Friday, February 19, 2021 Kelly Patry 2804 Attractions St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Egremont Also known as Egremont Church, in which is located near the Hamlet of Egremont at SE 01-59-22-W4. This is a small cruciform wood-frame, stucco finished church which has a orate wood frame bell tower and bell stand adjacent to the Church. The site marks the original location of the Ingleside School in which served the community until 1930. In 1939 the congregation moved to demolish the old school and construct a new structure on the same site. Known iconographer and church artist, Peter Lipinski (1888-1975), was hired to paint icons in the Iconostasis and two others on the walls. Local craftsman Matthew Dmytryk provided hand carved wood pieces, picture frames, religious artifacts, furnishing sand the original tabernacle. This church represents one of the finest examples of traditional Byzantine Architecture in the County. This site was designated as a Registered Historical Resource in 1998 and in 2009 was designated as a Municipal Historical Resource.
