Krause Milling Co.

The grain elevator in Radway, Alberta is the last remnant of Alberta’s flour milling industry.

This elevator was built in 1929 by W.A. Krause, who designed and built the adjoining flour mill in 1931.  The mill operated through World War 2.

The Krause Milling Company Grain Elevator and Flour Mill site complex is significant as an example of the 1920’s grain elevators constructed on the Canadian National Railway’s branch lines.  It is unique in that it was built to accompany a flour mill (demolished in 1959) that brough much business to this town.

The mill was sold after the war and it was operated by International Grain Company and later as Radway Flour Mill.  The facility was shut down in 1953.

This facility was designated as a Provincial Historical Resource in 2002.
