Monday, May 1, 2023 1934 Fire Bans & Alerts, Community Events Fire Ban Now in Effect Effective May 1, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. Due to the continued excessive dry conditions, high temperatures and winds, Thorhild County has issued a total Fire Ban. Current fire hazards are now considered extreme. Thorhild County urges everyone to recognize and proactively eliminate any possible outdoor sources of heat and ignition. Users of indoor solid fuel fireplaces are asked to ensure embers are not escaping from chimneys. All forms of vehicles can be a serious source of ignition in extreme conditions. Use caution when working or driving in grassy areas. Having a fire extinguisher and/or water source readily available while performing outdoor activities is advised. Fines for starting a fire during a Fire Advisory, Fire Restriction or Fire Ban are outlined in Bylaw 10-2022 Schedule “B” The following activities are prohibited: All outdoor burning Explosive Targets Fireworks discharge The following are allowed and are to be used with caution: Propane and natural gas-powered appliances For more information, please click here to view allowed activities.
