Fire Restriction Now in Effect

Effective June 9, 2023 at 2:00 p.m.

Thorhild County has issued a Fire Restriction with the heat warning that was released by Environment Canada. Fire hazards are considered high at this time.

Thorhild County urges everyone to recognize and proactively eliminate any possible outdoor sources of heat and ignition.

All forms of vehicles can be a serious source of ignition in extreme conditions. Use caution when working or driving in grassy areas.

The following activities are prohibited:
• Any fire requiring a Fire Permit
• Burn Barrels and Incinerators
• Recreational fires and back yard fire pits
• Campfires on public or private campgrounds

The following are allowed, to be used with caution:
• Propane and natural gas-powered appliances
• Charcoal barbeques

Thorhild County urges everyone to use care when performing allowed activities. Even the smallest grass/brush fire can quickly become out of control with strong winds. Ensure fire extinguishers or sources of water are readily available.

Off Highways Vehicles are allowed within the borders of Thorhild County including public lands. Care should be used to ensure these vehicles do not become a source of ignition for light ground fuels. Carrying a fire extinguisher on the vehicle is recommended.
