Tuesday, April 29, 2025 9 Fire Bans & Alerts, Local News Fire Ban in Effect April 29, 2025 at 11:00 AM In compliance with Thorhild County Emergency Services Bylaw 12-2023, Section 26, a Fire Ban is hereby enacted for the municipality of Thorhild County. The Fire Ban will remain in place until fire hazard conditions improve significantly. Prohibited Activities: All open fires necessitating a permit under Bylaw 12-2023 Wood campfires on public lands Discharge of fireworks Use of exploding targets Backyard fire pits Wood campfires in designated public or private campgrounds Burn barrels and incinerators Open flame oil devices (e.g., tiki torches, deep fryers) Charcoal-fueled devices Operating an Off-Highway Vehicle on Public Lands which is not part of emergency response operations Approved Activities: Use of CSA-approved propane devices (BBQ, Firepits) CSA-approved electrical cooking and heating devices Use of Off-Highway Vehicles in the Hamlet of Long Lake on municipal paved or gravel roads only Thorhild County urges everyone to recognize and proactively eliminate any possible outdoor sources of heat and ignition. Having a fire extinguisher and/or water source readily available while performing outdoor activities is strongly advised.
