Potential Drought Conditions
Due to dry weather conditions, Thorhild County is preparing for potential drought conditions. If necessary, water restrictions may be implemented. Water restrictions are typically imposed due to prolonged severe dry weather, water system or reservoir failure, or system contamination.
Capital Region North East Water Services and EPCOR are the authorized bodies responsible for issuing these types of restrictions. If the amount of stored treated water decreases, more stringent water restrictions may be imposed.
When a water restriction is necessary, Thorhild County refers to three levels of water restrictions: Demand A, B and C. Each level has specific guidelines for outdoor water usage. The levels of water restrictions are:
Demand A Water Restriction - Requires the Municipality to immediately discontinue the following:
Demand B Water Restriction - Requires the Municipality to immediately discontinue the following:
Demand C Water Restriction - Requires the immediate closure of all regional truck fills and the discontinuation of the following:
These restrictions are put in place to ensure that water storage levels are protected until the issue is resolved. The top priority is to maintain a water supply for indoor use, fire suppression, and replenish reservoir storage levels.
Please watch the County’s website or social media channels for information and updates on any water restrictions.
