A nurse practitioner (NP) is a registered nurse with advanced university education who provides personalized, quality health care to patients.  If necessary, they will refer you to the appropriate physicians or specialists.

What can a Nurse Practitioner do?

NPs are trained to assess, diagnose, order, and interpret medical tests, prescribe medications, and collaborate in the care of patients. NPs often provide primary care and urgent care services.  Throughout the year regular Pap clinics and Flu clinics are held,  Thorhild Family Medical Clinic is associated with the Aspen Primary Care Network.

Where is the Clinic?

The clinic is located in the Thorhild County Administration building on the North end.  The Thorhild County Medical Clinic is open to all public regardless of where you live.  The nurse practitioner is available by appointment.  Appointments provide patients with less waiting.  Our nurse practitioner is happy to answer any questions you may have.

Influenza – the flu

Influenza is commonly referred to as the flu. It is a respiratory disease caused by a virus that affects the nose, throat, and lungs. Influenza is easily passed from person to person.

Preventing the flu

The best flu prevention is to get vaccinated every year before the start of the flu season.  Everyone (6 months and older) should have influenza vaccine. It is free if you live, work, or go to school in Alberta.

Other good preventive habits are: (1) covering your hands whenever you cough, and (2) washing your hands to help prevent the spread of germs from turning into respiratory illnesses..

Flu shot vaccinations will be available starting October 16, 2023. Call the Clinic to book an appointment.

For anyone looking for the rapid test kits, they are available from the Thorhild Health Services Centre. Please call 780-398-3879 if you have any questions.
