Waste and Recycle Collection

Thorhild County provides the Hamlets of Egremont, Newbrook, Thorhild and Radway with waste collection and blue bag recycling.  Black waste carts are provided for weekly waste collection on Fridays.  Blue bag recycling is every second week on Fridays.  This service is provided by Integrity Waste Solutions Inc.


Curbside Collection Requirements

  • Waste collection and blue bag recycling is to be placed out by 7:00 a.m.
  • Place cart on level ground with cart wheels against the curb
  • Front of cart must face towards the street or avenue
  • Ensure there is at least one metre of space between the cart/blue bags and vehicles or structures
  • Lids must be fully closed
  • Waste located outside of the cart will not be collected

Transfer Stations

Transfer Stations operate on a bin system for household waste and recyclables for County residents. Refer to the detailed sorting list for recycling at the Transfer Stations.  


Thorhild County Identification Cards

Thorhild County Identification Cards are required to access Thorhild and Long Lake Transfer Stations and Waste Management of Canada -Thorhild Landfill for all household waste.  You will be required to show your card to the transfer station attendants. 


Transfer Stations are located at

Thorhild Transfer Station
60026 RR 214 (N1/2 of NE 5 60 21 W4M)
1 mile east of Thorhild from the Hwy 18 & 827 Junction, then north ¾ mile.
Open Wednesdays & Saturdays. 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Long Lake Transfer Station
SW 9 63 19 W4M
½ mile west of Hwy 831 at Long Lake corner, then ¼ mile south. 
Open Thursdays & Sundays from April 1 to October 31. 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Open Sundays only between November 1 and March 31. 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Tipping Charges will apply to:

  • Non-residential users
  • Residential users who do not present their Thorhild County issued Identification Card

$2.00 per bag to a maximum of $20.00 per load (half ton truck/single axel trailer; a “unit”)

Any appliance such as a freezer, fridge, air conditioning units, etc. that has not had the freon removed and appropriate label attached identifying the freon was removed, will be charged $20.00 per item.

There is also a Take and Leave, to leave clean gently used items.


Waste Management of Canada – Thorhild Landfill

Located at 61308 Hwy 63

There is a Transfer Station located at the site for use by County residents. The Public Drop Off Fact Sheet provides details about public business hours and types of items accepted. 

All bulk waste shipments delivered to the Waste Management of Canada Thorhild Landfill working face will be subject to a tipping fee.

If you wish to view the 2020 Annual Landfill Operation Report provided by Waste Management of Canada, please contact the office at 780-398-3741 to make arrangemnts for viewing.  This report is a 2 volume report that is too large to upload.

At 5:06 p.m. Mountain Daylight Time Wednesday, Environment Canada has issued a tornado warning for South Central Alberta. Extra care and attention should be exercised in and around the following localities: Wolf Lake, Cynthia and Brazeau Dam. Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm that is possibly producing a tornado. Damaging winds, large hail and locally intense rainfall are also possible. Area: (Brazeau Co. near Cynthia and Lodgepole)

At 5:05 p.m. MDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm that is possibly producing a tornado. Damaging winds, large hail and locally intense rainfall are also possible. The thunderstorm that may produce a tornado is located just west of Lodgepole, and is heading to the east at 15 km/h. Very large tennis ball sized hail and strong winds are also possible. ### This is a dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation. Tornado warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing tornadoes. Area: (Brazeau Co. near Cynthia and Lodgepole)
