Position Summary

Thorhild County is located 45 minutes north of the City of Edmonton and has a population of just over 3,040 residents.  Residents enjoy country and small town living close to the Cities of Edmonton and Fort Saskatchewan, and we have also become popular as a commuter community for the workers in Fort McMurray.  The economy is primarily driven by agriculture with secondary contributions from recreation and services to the energy industry.  Please visit our website for additional information on Thorhild County (www.thorhildcounty.com). The Thorhild Family Medical Clinic was established in April 2019.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Nurse Practitioner will utilize the nursing process, critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making skills to provide care to patients, their families, and the community within a clinical environment.  The successful candidate is competent to perform comprehensive assessment, diagnosis (including the ordering and interpretation of tests), intervention (including prescribing of medications), management, referral, and evaluation of patient care across the continuum of health care services.  

Required Qualifications
  • Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program at a minimum of a Master of Nursing level of equivalent. 
  • Active or eligible licensure with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA) as a Nursing Practitioner (NP) in the Family/All Ages Stream.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support-Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
  • Effective organizational skills with strong interpersonal and communication skills to enable working directly with patients and their family members in a clinical setting.  The Thorhild Medical Clinic is managed by the Nurse Practitioner.
  • Demonstrate strong decision making/problem solving abilities.
  • Experience in a wide range of assessment, treatment and therapeutic interventions, health promotion, diagnostic procedures, and follow-up care in the community.
  • Computer literacy skills (Telus Health).
  • Possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license.
  • Provide proof of Professional Liability Insurance.
  • Successful candidate will be required to provide a Criminal Record Check with a Driver’s Abstract.
Additional Information

This position is based on a 40-hour work week (Monday-Friday). Thorhild County has a comprehensive benefit program. Salary range for this position is $92,468-$117,845.
